My main goal in life?
Raise good kids.
Below are my “laws” that dictate my life, are what my core values of discipline, confidence and integrity actually mean, and what I am attempting to instill into my children in hops of raising good kids.
I try to lead by example through these 19 “laws.” This is a dynamic list and I am open to change and edits.
Some of my laws for life I have stolen from others, but I give them credit. Correction, most, probably all, of my laws are stolen. Most of them I learned from my wife, my parents, former bosses, a few dear friends, athletic coaches, my executive coach, or even my kids!
Enjoy.
- Take extreme ownership of everything in your life. (Jocko Willink)
- Be a shark; always swim forward. (Walter Bond)
- Play the long game. (Simon Sinek)
- Ask for help. And accept help when it is offered. It’s not a weakness. It is actually a sign of maturity and executive level leadership.
- Hire really good help and delegate.
- Marry well. And make sure your partner is your best friend. This is a cheat code to success.
- Do something active every day. Embrace the fact that you have the opportunity to challenge your body. And get after it.
- Do things for those who can’t. There are a ton of people who would love to be you and will never have the opportunities you have in life. Do it for them.
- Thank those who serve. If you’re not comfortable walking up and saying thank you to someone in uniform, say it yourself and pray for their safety. You very well wouldn’t be alive if not for them.
- Be your kids role model; make sure they ask you for life advice.
- Work harder than everyone else. (Eric Thomas)
- Nobody really cares, so stop complaining.
- When you don’t want to do something suck it up and go do it anyway. (David Goggins)
- Be in competition with yourself, nobody else. Strive to get better every single day. Don’t stop when your tired, stop when you’re done. And guess what, you’re never done. (David Goggins)
- All arguments really don’t matter, there are no winners. Just say you’re sorry, say ‘I love you’, and move on. (My Dad)
- Read. Books have all the knowledge, experiences, lessons, ideas and advise you could ever want. Turn the TV off and read.
- Things aren’t going your way? Good. You have the opportunity to go turn it around and make things happen for you. (Jocko Willink)
- Be nice, smile, and be grateful. You will be shocked how far you can get in life by just doing these 3 simple things everyday.
- Wake up every day and do epic shit. Go kick ass. Expect great things to happen. They will.
