Never Finished, by David Goggins
Charlie’s Book Score – 10/10
This book in one word – Whoa… This book is the definition of raw, unfiltered, vulnerable, and a blueprint to being a badass.
“Never Finished” picks up where Goggins’ first book, “Can’t Hurt Me,” left off, and it goes deeper into the mindset and relentless pursuit of excellence that defines his life.
Goggins refuses to settle. It is incredible. Even after a doctor completely screwed up his knee, racists punks taunt him during a 200 mile run across Florida, and mosquitos destroy him while running somewhere up north in the summer, I think the Hamptons? He just keeps going. He finds new boundaries. This is certainly why he is a world renowned speaker and inspiration force.
As we learned in his first book, Goggins is brutally honest and loves the F word. But in a weird way, the constant curing doesn’t bother me and it makes me love him even more… Go figure. Also, he doesn’t shy away from discussing his failures, insecurities, and the darkness he battles within. This vulnerability makes his triumphs all the more inspiring. In fact, I routinely listen to this book when I workout.
This is a book for anyone looking to break free from self-imposed limitations. Goggins’ message is clear: the journey to self-mastery is never over, and there is always another level to reach. Don’t quote me, but Goggins says “don’t stop when you tired, stop when you’re done. And guess what? You’re never done.”
Pretty simple stuff actually. We are capable of anything. But we limit ourselves. Goggins serves as a powerful reminder that we are all capable of more than we think.
To anyone who is confused and thinks life isn’t fair and they are working hard enough to earn success, go read this book. I wish I would have read this book when I was 16, 20, 24, any age! But hey, at least I got to find it in my 30’s and change my life accordingly.
You are awesome Goggins. Thank you. #StayHard
