Deep Nutrition by Dr. Cate Shanahan
Charlie’s Book Score – 9.7/10
What to be physically fit into “old age”, create healthy children, be beautiful (seriously) and laugh in the face of disease? Here is your book. This was/is a life changing book for me. This book was the catalyst that started the journey to improve the health of my family, specifically my daughter, Vivian. This should be a medical textbook and part of Medical school curriculums. Gets very deep in the weeds of biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, but super informative and practical. Practical because if you follow Dr. Cate’s 4 pillars for a good diet, you’ll basically ensure health and vitality. The 4 Pillars of health are as followed:
- Animal Organs
- Meat on the Bone
- Fresh Food (no boxes and in season food!)
- Fermented Foods
I wish I would have read this book prior to deciding to have a family. It could have impacted the health of my children in an immensely positive way. But the good news is that I read it prior to our 3rd child coming into the world and when our first kids were only 3 and 1, so we were able to make substantial changes and improve health for future generations.
Bonus! Dr. Cate is the OG biohacker and has been saying that vegetable seed oils are toxic and ruining our health. Get these out of your life asap! These toxic vegetable seed oils, as she dubs them “The Hateful 8” are:
- Cottonseed
- Canola
- Corn
- Soybean
- Safflower
- Sunflower
- Rape Seed
- Rice Bran
