Can’t Hurt Me, by David Goggins
Charlie’s Rating: 9.5/10
Need inspiration or motivation to get off your ass and go take over the world? Go read this book and learn about how a 297 lb cockroach sprayer transformed into the only military personnel to ever be a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, Air Force pararescue and quite possibly the most badass motherf**ker on the planet. Be prepared for the “F word” about 64,000 times in this book though as Goggins uses real language to describe his journey.
Some takeaways:
- We need to “callous” our minds and realize we operate at about 40%. Meaning, once adversity hits, which is usually at about 40% of our capacity, we tend to give up. That means we have another 60% to offer. This is why some people make it through SEAL training, and others don’t. SEALs tap into the extra 60%…
- We can truly overcome anything, if we put in the work.
- Do stuff that sucks every single day. This hardens (callous) the mind.
- The mind is an incredible tool, and we have complete control over it.
Goggins’s journey is quite unreal. He overcame crazy circumstances and situations, things we would never wish on our worst enemies. This book is a fascinating read and will keep your attention easily. In fact, I read this book in about 3 days and fell in love with Goggins after reading his first book (more on his second book by clicking here). Additionally, I have about 20 videos on YouTube saved to listen to whenever I need him to scream at me to stay hard and get better.
This book should come with a warning however. That warning is that if you truly take all the lessons in this book and apply them to your life, you will become unstoppable.
